The Task Force for Global Health
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Consults with management and staff to design, develop and maintain a World Wide Web site. Develops, writes and edits various communications materials including correspondence, newsletters, brochures and articles. Develops and maintains effective methods for distributing communication materials and information. Maintains required record-keeping and documentation. May train staff in the use of communications technology. May utilize various aspects of social media to accomplish work objectives. Performs related responsibilities as required.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The communication specialist supports the Director of Communications & Development and is a member of The Task Force communications department. The Specialist assists with implementing The Task Force communications plan. The role supports a broad portfolio of communications activities including writing, website management, media relations, social media, events, and presentations.
- Develop monthly Task Force e-newsletter including gathering content development and distribution
- Maintain Task Force social media channels including developing original content, curating content, building and engaging target audiences, and evaluating impact
- Maintain Task Force web properties including making regular updates, developing content, and addressing technical issues
- Identify opportunities for increasing awareness of The Task Force within the global health and donor communities including blogs, op-eds, public appearances and speeches by leadership, conferences and symposia, contributed articles, personal visits and calls, white papers, videos, photos, awards, and more.
- Research prospective partners both locally and nationally and identify opportunities for strategic engagement
- Assist with donor stewardship and communications
- Assist with media relations, including conducting research and developing story pitches
- Assist with planning and managing Task Force events
- Assist with donor stewardship activities
- Build out and maintain distribution list for Task Force communications products
- Provide administrative support as needed
- Participate fully as a member of The Task Force for Global Health by contributing, assisting and participating in projects, activities, and initiatives as requested by Task Force management.
- Other duties as assigned
TRAVEL:Up to 10% domestic and international travel
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of related experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, history, or public health.
· At least five years of experience supporting communications programs including writing, editing, storytelling, event management, and social media activities
· Strong writing and critical thinking as demonstrated by a portfolio of high-quality products
· Experience using diverse communications channels to activate target audiences including e- newsletters, websites, events, blogs, and social media
· Media relations experience including identifying and developing relevant story ideas and successfully placing these stories in targeted media outlets
· Previous experience working in a high-output, fast-paced communications department
· Self-starter with high degree of flexibility who can work with minimal supervision
· Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed
· Ability to anticipate and proactively address communications needs
· Ability to interact with senior staff at all levels with a high level of tact and diplomacy
· Demonstrated ability to communicate public health concepts and knowledge of global health
· Knowledge of MS Word and PowerPoint required
· Previous communications work experience with public health or global health organizations
· Master’s degree in communications, strategic communications, or public health
· Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Premiere, or Final Cut Pro X
