Provides technical and scientific expertise for programs in the areas of communicable disease, chronic disease and environmental epidemiology. Designs, conducts and reports on the epidemiological study of diseases, collects and analyzes data and develops health education materials. Manages and participates in investigations and surveys that have national and international impact. Conducts program research and prepares operational and statistical reports. May write publishable articles and papers. Serves as a liaison to and works with other groups and organizations participating in related programs. May travel internationally to supervise field operations. Performs related responsibilities as required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Epidemiologist will provide technical and scientific support to the Center for Vaccine Equity in the design and conduct of public health evaluations focused on influenza, the impact of influenza vaccine in reducing the incidence and morbidity of influenza related illness among vulnerable populations, and assessment of programmatic impact on other health systems. Working with program partners, the Epidemiologist will design study protocols, and support in-country partners in implementation and monitoring activities, analyze findings and communicate results to key partners. In collaboration with technical partners and other staff, the analyst will develop reports, publications and presentations to facilitate dissemination of evaluation outcomes.

Responsibilities include:

· In collaboration with partners, designing study protocols for multiple research projects

· Coordinate closely with country influenza and EPI program staff and other partners to facilitate the accurate and efficient implementation of evaluations

· Analyze data and communicate results to key partners, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, national programs, and other partners

· With partners and other CVE staff, develop statistical reports, publications, and presentations to disseminate the project results at scientific meetings, conferences, and in scientific journals, as appropriate

· Assist partners and CVE staff with study and survey design and data analysis as requested

· Perform related responsibilities as required

· Participate fully as a member of the Task Force for Global Health by contributing, assisting and participating in projects, activities and initiatives as requested by management

TRAVEL: 30-40% International travel

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A doctoral degree in a field related to area of research or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. International travel required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Strong analytic skill set and expertise in SAS programming (or similar statistical software)

· Five years’ experience working in developing countries

· Experience in influenza

· A track record of writing and contributing to scientific publications

· Fluency in French
